The Nature's Sunshine Story
Nature’s Sunshine began on the kitchen table of Gene and Kristine Hughes of Provo, Utah, USA, in 1972. Gene and Kristine heard from a friend that red cayenne pepper taken as a food supplement would help to improve Gene’s nagging health problem. Gene acted on the suggestion and was pleased with the result, but as you can imagine, swallowing a spoonful of cayenne pepper was an unpleasant experience. That’s when they hit on the idea of putting the powder into a simple gelatine capsule. The rest of the story, as they say, is history.

It wasn’t long before Gene saw just how large the need was for this kind of product. The Hughes enlisted the help of other family members and began hand-capsulating various herb powders at their home for sale to local health food stores. Soon the products were being sold in neighbouring states and before long the orders began to pour in. From this humble beginning, Nature’s Sunshine Products have evolved. Today Nature’s Sunshine Products is a vibrant international corporation with a bright future. What began as a kitchen table enterprise back in 1972 has blossomed and Nature’s Sunshine Products now has distributors in USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Brazil, Korea and Japan (all wholly owned subsidiaries of Nature’s Sunshine Products Inc. (USA) with exclusive distributing agents in Australia, New Zealand, Maylasia, Phillipines, Hong Kong, Norway, Bolivia, China, Ecudor and Peru.

In a culture dominated by fast foods, prescription drugs and quick-fix expectations, it pays to step back and take a fresh look at our health and lifestyle choices. Are the short-cuts really paying off? Are all the scientific advancements of our hi-tech age really making us feel better? More and more, we are realising that there are no effective artificial or chemical short-cuts to good health; that well-being comes when we stick to the basics: proper nutrition, adequate rest, regular exercise, and a healthy mental attitude.

The use of herbs for health and well-being is not a new concept. Literally every culture in the world today has been enriched by traditions of herb use. Unfortunately, the practice of the herbalist has taken a back seat during most of the past century. Now, with a renewed interest in getting back to basics, nutritional herbology is drawing the attention of health professionals everywhere. What’s more, modern science and technology have advanced the use of herbs to giving consumer’s greater control over the quality of their products. The products of Nature’s Sunshine are born of the ideal partnership of yesterday’s health traditions and today’s technical and scientific capabilities.

Although herbs in various forms constitute the bulk of the Nature's Sunshine Products line, we also offer a wide variety of other health-related products. The following is a general overview of the major product categories.
